I started my fishing career at age 4 when my Dad took me out with his work buddies on the Hudson River in NJ. All I caught was a mussel and got seasick.
Fishing got better at age 6 when we moved to Ormond Beach, FL and we started fishing on the Intercoastal Waterway, the Halifax River. My Dad eventually got a 14’ motorboat with a Scott's 40 hp motor. We caught a little bit of everything, including stingrays, small sharks, a BIG snapping turtle, lots of catfish, and my favorite, sheepshead.
We moved to Falls Church, VA in 1967, and it took me awhile to start fishing again. After high school, some of my buddies would go to Burke Lake, Fountainhead, Lake Anna and the Potomac River. We always caught something, usually sunfish, and it was always fun! One outing out of Fletchers Boat House in DC resulted in a MD citation 11 lb channel cat! That was exciting since I was using ultra light tackle with 8 lb test.
Two memorable charter trips on the Chesapeake Bay with work buddies resulted in 220 blue fish, then a MD citation 40 lb rockfish!
I’ve hooked up with Bill Chittenden who charters the Midnight Sun twice a year out of Smith Point, VA. I’ve made the last three trips with them and we always catch our limit. Captain Ryan Rogers always ensures we have a great time!
I have a boat in a slip in Aquia Bay, on the Potomac River. We have been going regularly to fish for bass and catfish.
In June 2011, Paul and I took my boat to Lake Placid, FL to fish and visit my brother. The trip was great, but too short!
So, after Paul retired, we took the boat to Panama City Beach FL for 2 weeks in October 2011. We caught over 100 fish and 12 different species. Fishing in the Gulf of Mexico in my 20’ bowrider was a blast! (didn’t catch a sheepshead though!)
